MO Ambulance Destroyed by Fire on I-70 Ignites a Second Time
The ambulance caught fire on I-70 in Callaway County Tuesday afternoon and again after being towed.
There were no injuries, Columbia Capt. Edward Kehrer told ABC17.
The fire on the interstate ignited a brush fire in the median, forcing firefighters to close the passing lane briefly.
As for the second fire, Kehrer said: "This was a little different there is a lot of stuff in the back of an ambulance and it's all packed down. It's just hard to get all that."
Crews also kept an eye on each other as the heat continued to rise.
"So at the start of the day, we try to keep everyone hydrated. Once the high hazard type of stuff is done we try to get people out of the gear slowly so we can just strip off the area, get the body some cool air, and then just keep everyone safe at the same time."
