Two firefighters were injured when the fire truck they were in wrecked and overturned north of Kernersville on Tuesday morning, and a bystander nearby was injured by a part that flew off the truck, the N.C. State Highway Patrol said.

The fire truck was heading north on Piney Grove Road with its lights and sirens on about 8:45 a.m. when it ran off the right side of the road in a curve near Warren Road. The driver overcorrected, and the truck overturned onto the left side of the road.

When the truck wrecked, its windshield came off and hit a man who was weeding in his yard, the Highway Patrol said.

Two firefighters and the man hit by the windshield were taken to the hospital with what were described only as injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
