Police charged a Staton House Fire and Rescue Department firefighter after the tanker he was driving to a fire scene crashed.
Firefighter Christopher Naylor was behind the wheel of the tanker when it went off Staton Road around 5:30 a.m. Friday.
As the apparatus rounded a curve, it ended up on the shoulder in soft ground, North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Potter told WITN.com. The water in the tank shifted, causing the tanker to overturn on the driver's side.
Naylor was cited for failure to maintain lane control by the Highway Patrol.
The apparatus was responding to a house fire that officials believe started in the kitchen at a home under renovation.
No injuries were reported and the truck was totalled, WNCT.com reported.
