Man Steals IL Ambulance, Leads Police on 75-Mile Chase

A man stole a Chicago Fire Department ambulance from near the Chinatown fire station leading police on a 75-mile chase.

A man was placed under arrest after stealing a Chicago Fire Department ambulance from near the Chinatown fire station leading police on a 75-mile chase ending near Dwight.

The incident happened late Monday afternoon as Ambulance 66 was parked near the fire house on West Cermak Road in Chinatown, according to ABC 7 Chicago.

Police followed the suspect onto I-55 until they lost sight of the ambulance. The Illinois State Police were able to locate the ambulance and followed it until the ambulance blew a tire.

Eventually officers deployed a stop stick flattening multiple other tires, but the driver continued to attempt to lose the officers.

Close to an hour and 45  minutes later the vehicle chase concluded when officers were able to flatten the final tire.

The suspect then exited the ambulance and was involved in a foot chase with officers before being apprehended close to 10 minutes later.
