A West Warwick fire station sustained extensive damage when a compartment door on an engine popped open.

West Warwick Battalion Chief Eric Norberg told WJAR that the engine was leaving for a call when the compartment door opened.

"It's under hydraulic springs or pistons. When they left it was closed, and when they started to proceed on the emergency response it did open," Norberg said.

As the truck moved forward it continued to pull on the side of the building, so the driver stopped to lessen the extent of damage.

The bay door came down on the engine, but wasn't damaged that seriously.
