GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Police suspect alcohol was a factor in a 9:20 a.m. crash involving a Grand Rapids Fire Department engine.

Grand Rapids Fire Department personnel were heading west on Burton Street SE, near Prospect Avenue, when an eastbound car struck the engine head on.

Firefighters had already noticed the swerving car, police said, and were moving slowly to the side of the road when hit.

Three people in the car were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. No one in the engine was hurt.

Burton Street SE is closed at Prospect Avenue while investigators are on scene, police said.

The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by the GRPD Traffic Unit.
