VA Firefighter Arrested for DUI with Emergency Vehicle

Capt. Joshua Mata had a BAC between .08 and .14 when he drove the Brookville-Timberlake emergency vehicle.

A Brookville-Timberlake fire captain was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after the drove an emergency vehicle to a call Sunday.

Capt. Joshua Mata drove a Brookville-Timberlake Volunteer Fire Department emergency vehicle to the scene of a medical assistance call.

Trooper M.D. Mayhew told television station WSET that Mata was arrested for DUI and was taken to the Bedford Blue Ridge Regional Jail.

Mata's blood alcohol concentration was listed on the jail's website between .08 and .14 percent. The legal limit for driving under the influence in the state of Virginia is .08%.

Brookville-Timberlake Fire Chief Jerry Womack told the television station that it was a personnel matter and could not comment.

Mata is also a career firefighter in Lynchburg.
