Fellow firefighters and friends gathered to remember Austin Smith, the St. Paul firefighter who died from injuries sustained at a barn fire Thursday.
Smith was known throughout the community where he grew up and was planning to open a business later this year, a taphouse to help bring more people to the city located 30 miles south of Portland.
“We in the St. Paul community are absolutely heartbroken over this loss," St. Paul firefighter Mark Daniel told KOIN. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to Austin’s family and friends as we all begin the grieving process."
