Yet another fire service event has been cancelled due to the ongoing federal shutdown.

The Executive Fire Officer Symposium -- set for this weekend -- cannot go on as planned because the National Fire Academy remains closed.

Participants were notifed Monday night of the cancellation.

"The campus will remain closed until the government reopens. As soon as staff returns, we will begin the process of rescheduling events," according to the e-mail to officers who had planned to meet in Emmitsburg this weekend.

The U.S. Fire Administrator's Summit on Fire Prevention also was postponed when the government shutdown. It was slated to take place Oct. 7.
