Six Killed in Waldorf, MD, House Fire

Waldorf firefighters were dispatched to the house fire at 8:40 a.m. Sunday and only one occupant escaped.

Six people died Sunday in a house fire in Charles County, according to the Office of Maryland State Fire Marshal.

At 8:40 a.m. Sunday, Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department and other fire departments responded to a call about a dwelling fire and entrapment on the 3000 block of Declaration Court in Waldorf. The fire department upgraded the call to a two-alarm fire upon its arrival, according to the fire marshal’s office.

Two adults and four children died in the fire, according to the Fire Marshal’s Office. One adult escaped the fire.

Heavy machinery was used for the fire to remove debris. Three deaths were confirmed within the first few hours of the operation before three more deaths were confirmed in the afternoon.

Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department, Charles County Sheriff’s Office, Charles County Collapse Team, Calvert K-9 Search Team and Charles County Volunteer Fire and Emergency Medical Services collaborated on the multi-fatal fire and finding the bodies and survivor.

The Office of Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire. No evidence of a criminal act related to the fire has been found, and investigators are looking into accidental causes.
