Two Bodies Found Days after Fires in Houston and Hitchcock, TX. Homes

Authorities are investigating after a body was found in a Houston home nearly two weeks after a fire and a woman was discovered in a fire-damaged Hitchcock home three days after a blaze.

Investigators are digging into what happened at two different scenes in Texas, after bodies in homes after they were damaged by fires.

In Hitchcock, a woman's body was found three days after a house fire, while in Houston, a body was found in a burned out home nearly two weeks after a fire.

Houston firefighters responded to a house fire on Terry Street around 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 18, according to ABC13 Houston.

Neighbors told the television station that nobody had lived in the home for several years, but homeless people were known to be in the home.

Firefighters contained that fire but not before it damaged an adjacent home. The morning of the fire, temperatures had dropped to 49 degrees.

A 9-1-1 call was placed about a bad smell coming from the home on Oct. 29 and police found a body in the home.

Houston Fire Department's arson investigators have been working to determine the cause of the blaze and are working with Houston police on the body that was found.

Officials did not say if the body may have been in the home when the fire broke out.

Nearly 45 miles south in Hitchcock, firefighters responded to a house fire on Oct. 25 on North Railroad Avenue.

According to ABC 13 Houston, firefighters contained that fire, searched the home and cleared the scene.

Early on Oct. 28, family members returned to the fire scene to retrieve property when they discovered an unconscious woman in the fire-damaged home.

Police identified the woman as Brandi Gregg, who lived in the home.

Hitchcock Assistant Police Chief Jeff Evans told the television station that Gregg did not have any injuries consistent with the fire, nor gunshot or stab wounds.

The Galveston County Sheriff's Office has been called to assist with the investigation.
