The medic in the back noticed smoke coming out of a vent.

A patient, medic and driver are OK, but their ambulance sustained fire damage.

The Alabama medic noticed smoke coming from a vent in the patient compartment, according to WSFA

The Rural Metro driver pulled over, and the crew got the patient out of the back. The transport to a Birmingham hospital was completed by another crew.

Supervisors told reporters they suspect the fire was caused by an electrical issue, adding that the unit only has about 24,000 miles on it.
