San Francisco medics were loading a patient into their ambulance Monday night when it was stolen,

Using GPS, California Highway Patrol tracked and pursued the ambulance through San Mateo and Alameda counties, NBC reported.

The CHP stopped the pursuit in Oakland out of caution for other drivers. They found the ambulance sans tires abandoned on a street.

However, the culprit has not been located.

Neither the patient nor the medics suffered injuries.

"This unprovoked act is alarming and endangered not only this patient and the crews but also countless emergencies that this crew won't be able to respond to now. More information on how the ambulance was taken will come as the investigation continues," fire officials said on the SFFD Facebook page.
