An elderly man fired shots at Chicago firefighters shortly after midnight today (Aug. 18) when he believed someone was breaking into his home, according to The Chicago Sun-Times.
The incident occurred in the Woodlawn neighborhood at 12:45 a.m. at 6335 S. Rhodes Avenue after a crew was dispatched to his home because a medical emergency bracelet or necklace had activated, Grand Crossing District Police Capt. Alberta Raymond told the newspaper.
After no one answered the door, the crew took out a wall air conditioning unit to gain entry when the 93-year-old man fired two shots at a firefighter.
No one was struck and police are not seeking to bring any charges against the man.
He was transported to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center for a mental evaluation. It was determined the medical indicator activated by accident.
