Phoenix police arrested a suspected arsonist yesterday (Aug. 19) who set his mansion on fire before reportedly escaping a second story balcony wearing scuba gear and using a rope ladder in early July, according to a fire department press release.

Firefighters responded to reports of smoke coming from the house on the morning of July 5 and arrived at 71 Biltmore Estates Drive to find the 10,000 square-foot home on fire.

The fire destroyed the mansion, which was estimated to be valued at approximately $3.5 million.

The arrested suspect -- homeowner Michael Marin -- was the sole occupant of the structure.
