PITTSBURGH --
An overnight fire that killed a 10-year-old boy and his little brother at a house on Litchfield Street in Pittsburgh's West End is under investigation.
The older sibling was identified as William White IV, and his brother was 4-year-old Jordan White. Both were found dead in a second-floor bedroom at about 1:35 a.m., Pittsburgh Fire Chief Darryl Jones said.
The boys' mother was being treated for burns to 30 percent of her body at UPMC Presbyterian and is expected to survive, WTAE Channel 4's Amber Nicotra reported.
The mother was able to save a third child from the fire, authorities said. Neither of their names or conditions has been released yet.
Jones said the fire started shortly after 1 a.m. on the first floor of the house. It quickly spread to the second and third floors and was fully involved when firefighters arrived.
"The streets are very narrow and hilly, but most of the neighborhood streets in Pittsburgh are that way," Jones said. "The crews did a fine job of getting their equipment here."
Fire investigators remained at the scene of the deaths early Monday, trying to determine the cause of the fatal blaze.
City homicide detectives are also on the case, which police said is standard procedure for deaths of this nature.
A pair of autopsies by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office will determine the official cause of death later in the day.
