OVERLAND PARK, Kan.-- A woman is rescued from a drainage pipe after leading police on a foot chase.

Selena Rose Rector was filling up a gas can at the Quik Trip a couple of blocks away at 107th and Roe. That's because her car had run out of gas.

Police asked if they could help, and when they ran her name they discovered Rector had outstanding warrants for forgery in Missouri. That's when Rector took off and lead police on a foot chase inside a drainage pipe that runs under I-435 and dead-ends at a pond at 109th & Roe.

Overland Park firefighters assisted in the rescue with a ladder truck extended over the drainage grate.

It was a difficult rescue because she had run in 200 yards and the opening was very narrow, just three feet in diameter.

"The two officers went in the tunnel after her and actually found her lying in the water when they got to her, so they stood her up and tried to keep her warm as best we could until we could get the rescue personnel here to get her out," said Sgt. Mark Hackathorn.

Rector was checked out at a local hospital and is currently in the adult detention center in Olathe. She has a court appearance by video today to face a charge of obstruction.

No word on the warrants out of Missouri.
