The Milwaukee Fire Department is on the scene of a three alarm fire at the Plastic Coating Corporation near 34th and Mill Rd.

Tiffany Wynn, a spokeswoman for MFD, said the fire started in a vat inside the plant just before 8 p.m. Thursday.

Wynn said the fire went to three alarms because there were no hydrants in the area. She also said fire crews had to cut their way into the building.

One firefighter suffered a minor cut to his leg.

The company's Web site said they were founded in 1972 and that they have 40,000 sq. ft. of production space, and 11 ovens.

It also said they use coatings such as epoxy sprays, polyester, polyuerthane, nylon, vinyl and polyethylene.
