HALIFAX, Mass. --
A former Halifax firefighter was arraigned Friday on charges he threatened to kill his former boss.
NewsCenter 5's Jack Harper reported that the would-be victim is the fire chief in Halifax.
Robert Mansfield was a Halifax firefighter for two years until he was fired in August.
Prosecutors said he threatened to kill his former boss Halifax Fire Chief Lance Benjamino.
"On Nov. 12, just a few days ago, he placed a phone call to the chief where he said, 'You're a expletive dead man. I'm going to kill you,'" prosecutor Kristin Stone said.
When Benjamino called the Halifax police, they took the threat seriously and started investigating. The call was traced to a local pay phone with a security camera.
"That telephone call represents the most recent act in a series of beginning on Aug. 20 two days after he was terminated by the Halifax fire department," Stone said.
Investigators said Mansfield and some motorcycle buddies have harassed the chief, even circling his family as they tried to leave the Marshfield Fair screaming obscenities and blocking them from their car.
Mansfield was fired for refusing town ordered physical therapy for an injury. His attorney said Mansfield's own doctor advised against the therapy.
Prosecutors wanted him held for a dangerousness hearing.
"Your honor, there are certainly other conditions that would serve the commonwealth's purpose -- that would be a stay away order," defense attorney Chris Sheehan said.
Mansfield was held on $2,500.
