HOUSTON --
Houston firefighters pulled a 98-year-old woman to safety late Saturday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Mable Williams' home was just too close to an intense house fire on Blodgett Street near Almeda Road at about 10 p.m. Two firefighters carried her outside her home.
Williams said she was washing dishes when she looked out the window and saw the fire.
"I began to get nervous," Williams said. "I just kept seeing the light. I went to the front and turned on my alarm and nothing. I began to look outside and I saw all of this."
Bright orange flames lit up the night sky. More than 50 firefighters worked to put the flames out.
The home ended up as just a pile of rubble. It was for sale and vacant.
"Why they haven't taken the sign down, I don't know. The people who bought it have been coming in and out. I don't know if they were using it as storage or what," neighbor Loretta Herpin said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Crews said electricity was running to the home but the gas was not.
Williams was not injured and her home did not sustain any damage.
