OMAHA, Neb. --
Firefighters involved in the rescue of five children from a burning home on Thursday said they were just doing their job.
Rescuers saved the children, who ranged in age from 1 to 17, when the home near 26th and Parker caught fire late Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters said when they arrived at the home and learned that there was still a child inside, they searched the smoke-filled house for the 3-year-old.
Crew members said they used their hands to feel the floor on the second story of the house because visibility was next to nothing. By luck, they found the child and rushed him outside, where medical teams were waiting.
"I can't tell you how happy I am the kid got out alive," said Omaha Fire Capt. Bret Reynoso. "That's what we do. We got a kid out alive. What more do you need?"
Investigators said the cause of the fire has not officially been determined, but there are reports that two of the children were using the stove to light pieces of paper on fire.
Changkuoth Yiek, 3, remains in critical condition at Creighton University Medical Center.
Police identified the other victims as Buay Kang, 17; Hon Kang, 12; Minyjiak Yiek, 5, and Nyagoa Yiek, 1.
The Red Cross has provided financial support to help the family members buy new clothing to pay for temporary shelter in a hotel.
