Detroit Firefighter Hurt Battling Blaze

Several others were trapped briefly, but were able to escape.

DETROIT --

One firefighter was injured while battling a blaze at a vacant house in Detroit on Monday.

The fire started around 3:30 p.m. in a home at Pulford and Mount Elliot roads.

Fire officials said the fire spread to two garages behind the home.

Several firefighters were trapped inside the home for a short time, according to officials. They were able to get out safely.

Investigators said one firefighter was injured when he fell through the roof of the house. He was taken to the hospital with a knee injury. He is expected to be fine.

The fire is under control.
