Huntington, WV (HNN) -When fire broke out at the home of Anna Meador, a 71-year-old retired MU professor, fire fighters rushed to the home at 160 Honeysuckle Lane which was already engulfed in fire and smoke.

According to a Herald Dispatch report, firefighter Mike Matt entered the house through a bathroom window and managed to get oxygen to the woman while firefighters moved the ladder so the two could escape out a larger window.

Ms. Meador was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

During the Monday Dec. 12 council meeting, councilperson Mary Neely praised the efforts of the firemen. "They were very professional," she said, adding that neighbors were highly complementary of the fire department and paramedics on a job well done."

Councilperson Calvin Kent echoed Neely's remarks with his own "laudable" comments on behalf of the fire department for rescuing a woman who used to teach accountancy and the legal environment in the Lewis College of Business.
