A Springfield woman was hospitalized after firefighters pulled her unconscious from a burning home just before midnight Thursday.
Witnesses said flames were shooting from the second floor of when firefighters arrived at the home on Market Street near 10th Street.
About 20 minutes later, they found the woman in a second-floor bedroom. She was taken to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center, where she was reported to be in critical condition.
Other neighbors in the apartment did make it out. William Woods tried to help his neighbors in the two-story house converted to apartments.
"My girlfriend woke me up and told me the house was on fire. I went around and woke my mom up. I went around front and the whole house was ablaze," resident William Woods said. "I went and banged on the door to see if I could wake anybody up but couldn't get anybody to answer the door."
Firefighters told Channel 4's Hetal Gandhi that the fire looked suspicious. The Fire Marshal was called to the site trying to determine the cause of the fire.
