51-year-old Jim Miller was working an accident scene on South Tryon and Moss Streets Tuesday afternoon when a tractor-trailer with a wide load went by. Fire officials say a piece of wood from the big rig hit Miller in the shoulder. Emergency crews first thought a car hit him.
