Dozens of people are looking for a place to stay after a huge apartment fire in San Francisco.

The fire started just before 11 p.m. Monday on Gardenside Drive east of Twin Peaks. Flames quickly spread throughout the building.

There were no reports of injuries.

Units arrived just before 11 p.m. Monday and began attacking the fire that started on the third floor of the four-story building. The fire was contained after 129 firefighters and 37 units spent at least 90 minutes fighting the blaze.

Smith said flames moved to the fourth floor and the attic space above. Firefighters had to extend hoses down hallways 100-feet-long and at one point, all personnel were called out of the building.

"It was getting too dangerous," said Smith.

Winds of about 20 to 30 mph helped fan the flames, and firefighters were forced to attack the fire from above.

An undetermined number of residents have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
