It took firefighters more than four hours in the freezing cold Sunday morning to put out a fast moving three-alarm fire in Brooklyn.

Fifteen families were forced out of their homes in Crown Heights. Five firefighters and two residents were treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

"Fire come blowing in the house, everybody was screaming and scared. The firemen came running. We jumped on the fire escape just to get out the house," says resident James Stoves. "It took them a little while to come, but everybody got out safe."

An FDNY spokesman says the freezing weather and wind may have slowed rescue efforts. The Red Cross is now working to help displaced residents.
