Several brush fires in Deltona, Fla., burned dangerously close to homes Monday before more than 100 firefighters were able to bring the fires under control, according to Local 6 News.
Firefighters responded to flames at the Firewood Park subdivison located near Normandy Boulevard and Vicksburg Road just east of Interstate 4 in Deltona Monday afternoon.
A home in the subdivision was damaged by approaching flames and several other structures were threatened.
"I thought my house was going to catch on fire and I was going to lose it," homeowner Ann Mahnken said. "It was really scaring me."
Local 6 News showed fire trucks spraying water on homes in an attempt to keep them from burning.
"The fire itself, size-wise, isn't that big but the winds right now are incredible," Sky 6 helicopter pilot Dan McCarthy said while over the scene. "The flames are just raging through here. They are getting bigger and bigger by the moment."
There were reports that kids were in the area playing with matches, McCarthy said. However, fire investigators told Local 6 reporter Erik von Ancken late Monday that the fire was most likely accidental.
There were no reported injuries in connection with the fires.
