ALTON -- An firefighter was hit by an SUV Saturday night while on his way to battle a house fire.
Luis Guerrero was called in to work when a tree caught fire, but he never made it to the fire station.
Guerrero was on his motorcycle waiting to turn onto Main St. when police say a Hummer didn't yield and slammed right into the bike.
Guerrero, who's been volunteering for more than 15 years, is now in critical condition. His friends and co-workers hope he'll be able to work again.
Grief counselors are on hand to help the firefighters who had to treat their friend as a victim.
The driver who hit him was given a ticket and the investigation continues.
