Firefighters are investigating a fire Tuesday evening that may have killed a Hurst woman. A badly burned body thought to be that of an elderly woman was discovered after crews extinguished the fire about 7 p.m. in the 640 block of Ponderosa Drive, Fire Chief John Brown said.

The origin of the fire remained under investigation Wednesday. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office is in the process of identifying the body, Brown said. It took crews less than 20 minutes to extinguish the fire.

The body was found in the dining area, which had sustained the most damage, officials said. No other injuries were reported.
