A family was alerted to fire when their barking dog awoke them. The family was able to escape safely.
The call was dispatched at 0426 hours for on June 12 for 8300 Regalia Place in the Highlands. Responding were Engine 15, Engine 13, Engine 1, Engine 11, Medic 15, Truck 14.
First on scene reported heavy fire and smoke from the home, an attached garage was fully involved with extensions to the home.
A second alarm was requested and dispatched were: Engine 17, Engine 19, Truck 3, Medic 11, Air Utility and Fire Marshall 2.
Rehab 13 provided food and drinks for the tired firefighters.
Crews launched an aggressive interior attack and an exterior attack. Due to heavy heat and fire conditions crews suspended the interior attack and intensified the defensive attack.
The roof over the garage collapsed.
With the fire marked under control, and the hotspots extinquished, the investigation into the cause began.
The home was deemed a total loss. The family was safe which included a mother and several children. The dog, whose barking had awakened the family, did not survive.
