GOLDEN, Colo. --
A crew digging outside a home in Golden hit a gas pipe Monday afternoon causing an explosion that destroyed the home.
Police said an excavation crew was digging outside a home near 11th and Terry streets when they hit a gas line.
The crew immediately backed away from the pipe and a short time after, it exploded, said Jacki Kelly of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
The home was a complete loss and the family will need to be relocated, Kelly said.
No one was inside the home, and no one was injured when the pipe exploded.
It took about an hour for firefighters to stop the fire, because of a delay in turning off the gas line.
