OVIEDO, Fla. --

An Oviedo firefighter killed five years ago was honored Saturday.

The city of Oviedo dedicated a park named after Shane Kelly, who, along with Dr. Donald Diebel Jr., was run over by a semi truck on the Florida Turnpike while he stopped to help another motorist, WESH 2 News reported.

Both Diebel and Kelly stopped on the side of the road to help a driver whose car flipped. Robert Jackson Jr., the driver of the semi truck, skidded on the rain-slicked road and killed both men.

Jackson was sentenced to 10 years in prison for perjury after lying about driving the truck and later admitting it.

City officials, Kelly's widow, Rachel, family, friends and other citizens were present for the ceremony, where a plaque honoring Kelly was unveiled.

The 165-acre Shane Kelly Park, located on the corner of Lockwood Boulevard and County Road 426, has numerous soccer fields and plans are in the works to build baseball fields and other venues.
