Evacuations were ordered Sunday after explosives were found in a south Sacramento home, police said.

Authorities were called to a residence in the 7300 block of East Parkway at about 6 p.m.

Firefighters found one container marked "explosives" and a second containing an unknown chemical.

Police officers asked residents of six homes to leave temporarily.

Just before 10 p.m., a bomb squad used a robot to initiate an explosion and render the explosives safe.

The second material, which was identified as nitric acid, was removed for disposal.

Police said a man died at the home recently and relatives were cleaning out his things when the box was discovered.

Nobody was injured and no arrests were made.
