Boxes Marked 'Explosives' Found at Ohio Baseball Field

Sept. 19, 2006
Roads were blocked, but residents were not evacuated.

Tiltonsville police and fire crews said an investigation is under way after several boxes marked explosives are found near a baseball field.

Police said they got a call around 7:30 p.m. Monday from the groundskeeper at the Warren Township Baseball Field, and that the man said he had found boxes marked explosives.

When police got to the scene, they said they found the boxes filled up to the top of the nearby dumpster.

Corporal Zack Beck told NEWS9 after investigating the boxes from afar, crews found that they are actually from a company that manufactures mining explosives.

However he would not release the name of that company.

Beck said his crews were waiting for a representative from that company to arrive on scene to look at the boxes, and determine just what is inside.

"Right now, with us blocking off the roads, that's just precautionary, said Beck. We don't see it as a large threat, if we did, we'd have everybody backed out, and evacuated."

A local neighbor told NEWS9 the whole incident was frightening.

It's scary, said local resident Lisa Pierpoint. Because to think that there could be explosives, and I just live right up over the hill from that."

Beck said the boxes looked old and empty.

He said he wants to stress that crews do not think the boxes pose a serious threat to any local residents.

NEWS9 will bring you the latest on this developing story as the details becomes available.
