SEATAC, Wash. (AP) -- A woman died in a fire that was traced to a faulty electrical panel in her basement bedroom, officials said.
The 32-year-old woman was found dead in the bedroom after firefighters, summoned by neighbors, arrived late Sunday night to find flames shooting out of the daylight basement as high as the second floor of the split-level home, Fire Chief Robert Meyer said.
''We believe she woke up and tried to escape but was probably overcome by carbon monoxide,'' Assistant Fire Chief Brian Wiwel said.
The woman lived with her father and stepmother, who were out of town at the time, investigators said. Damage was estimated at $225,000.
