    Washington, DC, June 20, 2005 -- David R. Paulison, Fire Administrator at the US Fire Administration joins fire service leaders in to call on the Nation's fire and rescue personnel to make first responder safety and health a priority. FEMA and the U. S. Fire Administration are joining the International Association of Fire Chiefs and 16 other organizations in calling for the focus on health and safety.

    While fighting a house fire earlier this year, Ashburn, Va. firefighters were caught off guard when a floor collapsed beneath their feet and an extreme wall of furnace-effect heat blew down a hallway.

    It could have ended a lot worse than it did. One firefighter trapped as a result of the floor collapse was rescued after calling "mayday." And four firefighters escaped the second floor heat blast with only minor burns. But the lessons of that fire will serve as one focus on Tuesday
