BRIDGETON -- A city firefighter spent the night in the hospital after battling a two-alarm blaze at 57 Cedar Street early Monday evening, Fire Chief Dave Schoch said Tuesday.

The firefighter's identity and injuries were not being disclosed.

"As of 9 a.m. (Tuesday), the firefighter was told he was going to be released," Schoch said. "It was related to the activities at the fire. In 85 degrees and high humidity and you're putting on 35 to 40 pounds of gear, it takes a lot of energy out of you. It's a tough profession in this weather."
