TAMPA, FL -- A fire that destroyed a gasoline station on North 22nd Street on Monday morning injured two firefighters, authorities said.

The two-alarm fire at the Sunoco at Bearss Avenue and North 22nd caused an estimated $250,000 damage, Hillsborough Fire Rescue spokesman Ray Yeakley said.

Firefighters got the alarm at 6:21 a.m. and responded to find smoke and fire coming from the attic and one of the restrooms.

Two firefighters suffered first and second-degree burns in a small explosion and were taken to Tampa General Hospital, Yeakley said. Both were treated but not admitted.

The cause of the fire was unknown Monday afternoon. Investigators say the fire does not appear suspicious, but they are not ruling anything out, Yeakley said.

Firefighters got the fire under control in just over an hour, Yeakley said.
