NEW YORK (AP) -- An F train derailed early Wednesday morning near 34th Street and Sixth Avenue near Penn Station. No injuries were reported, but 57 passengers were evacuated from the train, which jumped the track at about 4:13 a.m.
Transit workers had been changing a rail, but had not locked it in place, causing the fourth car of the northbound train to derail about 300 feet south of 34th Street.
No injuries were reported and passengers were able to leave the trains safely. Service on the F line was diverted to Eighth Avenue while the derailment was being investigated, said Officer Kathleen Price, a police spokeswoman.
Fire officials reported a small fire resulted from the derailing, which was soon brought under control.
