LATIMER, Miss. (AP) -- Three firefighters were hospitalized in stable condition after being injured while battling a house fire, said Jerry W. Cook, Jackson County's fire commissioner.
The most seriously injured person in Wednesday night's fire was Matthew Krohn, assistant chief of the Latimer Volunteer Fire Department. Krohn was flown to the University of South Alabama burn center in Mobile. Cook said Krohn suffered second-degree burns over 20 percent of his body, including his neck, back and wrist.
Fort Bayou firefighter Lyle Crandall Jr. and Aaron Keebler of the Latimer department were both taken to Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula.
The home's occupants were not injured, Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said.
The fire was reported around 6:30 p.m. at a home off Old Biloxi Road. The injured firefighters were the first to enter the brick house.
``Nobody really knows what happened for sure except the three people who were in there,'' said Latimer's Volunteer Chief Wayne King. ``We haven't talked to them yet.''
``We've got all kind of investigators coming in here to find out what happened,'' Cook said.
