FITCHBURG -- City firefighters freed six students from an elevator in Aubuchon Residence Hall on the Fitchburg State College campus Thursday night.
Lt. Gregg Normandin said the elevator stalled on the seventh floor and it took firefighters about 15 minutes to get the students out.
Normandin said the students were a little rattled, but there were no injuries or other problems.
"They were happy to get out," he said.
Normandin attributed the stuck elevator to the age of the building and a safety feature that prevents the elevator doors from opening unless the cage lines up just right at the floor.
"It's not an uncommon occurrence... it happens occasionally throughout the city (and) in all cities," he said.
