CENTERVILLE, Utah (AP) -- Officials are investigating whether a vehicle fire was arson and whether the owner may have been targeted because he was a witness to a shooting.
Fire crews were called to a Centerville home at 2:30 a.m. Sunday to put out a vehicle fire that had been burning for quite a while, said South Davis Assistant Fire Chief Jim Rampton.
He said the 2004 Ford Ranger had only 2,500 miles on it and had not been driven for a while.
Centerville Police Lt. Paul Child said the owner of the vehicle had been subpoenaed to testify in an upcoming trial in Salt Lake City, where he had witnessed a shooting there.
Rampton said the man was a bouncer at a private club.
Samples from the fire damage have been sent to the state crime lab for analysis.
