Chesterfield, Virginia Firefighters Battle Two-Alarm House Fire

June 23, 2004
Firefighters had difficulties obtaining water and getting it to the burning home because it was so far away from the road

A Chesterfield County home is gutted after a two-alarm fire. The fire happened at the 10300 block of Qualla Road around 2 p.m. Tuesday, near Donegal Drive.

The house is a complete loss. It is set so far off the road, firefighters had a hard time getting water to the burning home, and were eventually forced to standby and watch it burn. Firefighters tell 8 News there was nothing that could be done.

The closest hydrant to the fire was miles away, so tanker trucks had to be brought in and resevoir stations set up, all while the house was already engulfed in flames.

One person was home when the fire started, but she was able to escape safely and call 9-1-1. The family of four who lived there lost everything.
