On the west end of the state, sparks from a wood chipper ignited a mulch pile at a pallet company in Warren County.

On the east end, a cigarette flicked from a car likely started a fire that burned up to 15 acres of marshland in Bergen County.

East, west and in between, a springtime recipe of wind, sparks and dead wood made conditions ripe for fires throughout New Jersey yesterday.
