Investigators probed the ashes of a Summit car dealership yesterday looking for clues to the cause of a raging fire that destroyed the showroom and at least six luxury cars.
Nine fire departments from Union, Essex and Morris counties rushed to assist Summit firefighters, who at one point had to call for New Jersey American Water Co. to boost water pressure to the area because pressure was dropping in the fire hoses.
With 10 engine and three ladder companies pouring thousands of gallons of water onto the building, firefighters realized that the drain on the water system was hampering their ability to fight the fire, said Battalion Chief Richard DeGroot.
