A man is recovering from injuries he received at a plant on President Street, where he had to be rescued by Savannah firefighters. About 10:30pm last night, the fire department's rescue squad was called out to assist ambulance crews in the rescue of a man who had fallen at Englehard Corporation. Witnesses say the man was walking along a catwalk when he fell down a staircase and broke his leg.
Since the victim was lying on the fifth storey, it made it impossible for medical crews to get to him. So firefighters rigged up ropes to a basket, and placed the man on a ladder truck where he was lowered to the ground.
The injured man was rushed to Memorial Health for treatment. His name and condition have not yet been released.
