BETHLEHEM -- A natural gas leak Tuesday evening forced the temporary evacuation of several South Side homes.

UGI crews and Bethlehem firefighters evacuated between 20 and 25 homes as a precaution while crews repaired an aging natural gas main at Seventh and Atlantic streets, company spokesman Barry Wentzel said.

Residents along Seventh Street were allowed back into their homes about 9:10 p.m. and UGI hoped to have Atlantic Street residents back into their homes about an hour or two later, Wentzel said.
