SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A man in his 70s set fire to his home Monday and then fired gunshots at arriving firefighters and police, officials said.
A neighbor called 911 just before 9 a.m. to report the home was ablaze. When deputies and firefighters arrived, the man inside began shooting, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lieutenant Reed Parkin. No one was hit by the shots.
The man was not identified. Deputies were trying unsuccessfully to contact him inside the home, and the extent of damage to the structure was not immediately known.
