Former New Mexico Fire Chief Settles Claim Against City

A former Clovis fire chief has settled claims against the city.
CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) -- A former Clovis fire chief has settled claims against the city.

Sam McCallie, who alleged the city and City Manager Raymond Mondragon wrongfully fired him last year, agreed to $15,000 to settle his claims. His attorney, Eric Dixon of Portales, said the city also agreed not to challenge $9,000 in unemployment compensation.

Court documents show a judge issued a summary judgment in favor of the city on three of five counts.

Dixon said a trial had been set for the remaining two counts, including wrongful termination, but that the city and McCallie settled.

McCallie sued the city and Mondragon shortly after his Jan. 16, 2003
